Are you ready to make 2026 your most relaxing and fun year yet? Whether it’s a dream city break, quality time with family, or just a well-deserved few days off, your annual leave plays a big role in your wellbeing — and knowing how to use it wisely can help you squeeze every bit of value out of your entitlement.

Here’s how you can maximise your 2026 annual leave and enjoy more stress-free time off!

England & Wales Public Holidays 2026 at a Glance

Hacking the Holidays in 2026

1. Extend Weekends

Lots of public holidays fall on Mondays—think Easter Monday (April 6) or Early May Bank Holiday (May 4).
Hack: Book annual leave on the Friday before and enjoy a 4-day break instead of just 3!

2. Maximise Around Christmas & New Year

Christmas & New Year in 2026 give you great options:

  • Christmas Day falls on Friday, Dec 25
  • Boxing Day is Saturday, Dec 26 (so Monday, Dec 28 is often given as a holiday)
Hack: Book leave on Tuesday Dec 29, Wednesday Dec 30, and Thursday Dec 31 to enjoy a full 10-day holiday from Saturday, Dec 26 through Sunday, Jan 4, while using only 3 days of annual leave!

Example: Stretching Your Leave in 2026

  • Easter Monday (April 6): Book the entire week off from April 3 to 10 for a 10-day holiday, using 5 annual leave days (Friday April 3 + Tuesday-Thursday April 7-9).
  • Christmas to New Year: Book Tuesday–Thursday, Dec 29–31 to get over a week off.
