Here’s how you can maximise your 2026 annual leave and enjoy more stress-free time off!

With two public holidays back-to-back on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd January, you can start the year with a long weekend.
Hack: Book leave on Monday, 5 January to get a 4-day break straight after New Year festivities!
Good Friday falls on April 3rd – perfect for a long weekend.
Hack: Book Monday 6th to Wednesday 8th April, and combine with Good Friday to enjoy a 10-day break from Saturday 28 March to Sunday 5 April, using only 5 annual leave days.
May has two public holidays on Monday 4th and Monday 25th, great for planning mini-breaks or day trips.
Hack: Book Friday 1st May to get a 4-day weekend around May Day, or Friday 22nd May for another long weekend before Spring Bank Holiday.
Scotland’s Summer Bank Holiday lands on Monday, 3 August — a great chance for a late summer getaway.
Hack: Take Friday 31 July off to enjoy a 4-day weekend.
Unlike many parts of the UK, Scotland has St Andrew’s Day on Monday, 30 November. This is a perfect opportunity for a long autumn break.
Hack: Book Friday, 27 November for a Scottish-themed 4-day weekend.
Christmas Day falls on Friday, 25 December, and Boxing Day’s substitute holiday is Monday, 28 December. With New Year’s Day on Thursday, 1 January, 2027 and 2nd January on Friday, 2 January, you can enjoy an extended festive break.
Hack: Book Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30, and Thursday 31 December off to get a 12-day holiday from Saturday 19 December 2026 through Sunday 3 January 2027 using only 5 days of annual leave!
